Now Cobham, a leading maker of aerospace, orbital, defense and communications equipment has developed the rugged, lightweight and simple-to-operate Cobham Sailor Fleet One terminal to give you ultra-reliable Fleet One service in the coastal fishing areas, port-to-port routes and vast regions of near-shore & inland waterways that the maritime industry, smaller fishing vessels and recreational boaters routinely go.
With the Cobham Sailor Fleet One, you get:

Powerful, Reliable Satellite Connectivity Near Shore
The Cobham Sailor Fleet One comes in two main parts, the Sailor Fleet One antenna, comprised of the compact, all-weather marine antenna and cable, and the Sailor Fleet One terminal, which is a small, tablet-sized terminal, that connects to the antenna, and interfaces with your on-board equipment. Once you have properly mounted the antenna on the outside of your vessel, and properly set-up the terminal, operations can begin.
Operating the Cobham Sailor Fleet One is simple, and it gives you a range of communication options for you and your crew to stay connected. With an analog phone handset and laptop computer (not included), you can make and receive voice calls, send and receive emails, sms messages, make file transfers and access VPN applications. And you can do this in all weather-conditions, from extreme cold to extreme heat, up to 100% humidity, and in the roughest seas. That’s what satellite communications give you, and that’s what Cobham’s trusted, ultra-reliable equipment provides for customers around the world. Whether it’s at-sea, in the skies, in orbit and even in deep space, Cobham is a trusted leader in critical communication systems and equipment.
Voice calling can be done in any one of three ways:
- Using your own smartphone: set-up your own wireless network using a WLAN access point (not included) connected to the Sailor Fleet One’s LAN interface.
- Using an analog phone (not included) connected to the Sailor Fleet One’s phone port
- Using an IP Handset (included) connected to the Sailor Fleet One’s LAN interface
Using any of these voice options, you and your crew can make and receive voice calls to and from any landline or mobile phone in the world, as well as other satellite phones. Other functions, such as surfing the web, email, sms and other IP-based data applications can be used by connecting your own laptop to the Sailor Fleet One and accessing Inmarsat’s global BGAN network using your Fleet One service.
Global Service; Special Low, Key-Coastal-Region Pricing
Real-time voice and data communications at-sea can be a valuable competitive edge for commercial fishing vessels, and other maritime operators. The ability to update your charts, check the latest weather reports, or call home anytime can boost morale, and help keep you informed when you need it most. Inmarsat’s Fleet One service is designed to give smaller fishing vessels and near-shore maritime operators this same competitive edge, by making it affordable and practical. With special low-pricing in key coastal waterways and near popular ports-of-call, you can have consistent, reliable communications that don’t rely on the local land-based cell-towers, and that stay with you however far out to sea you need to go. Now, the near-shore maritime industry and small-vessel operators can get the same reliable, voice calling, emergency services and high-speed internet connections (up to 100 Kbps) that the larger, transoceanic fleets have enjoyed for years, but with special low-rates in the key-coastal regions and near-shore waters where they need it most. Fleet One still gives you access to the Inmarsat constellation of communication satellites around the world, in all the oceans and across all the continents (with the exception of the Northern and Southern Polar regions) but the difference are the special rates for the waterways most-commonly sailed by smaller commercial fishing fleets and recreational sailors. By focusing on the needs of smaller fishing boat operators and even occasional, recreational sailors, the Fleet One service makes satellite comms smart and affordable.
There are no lengthy contracts required, and with Pre-paid options available, there is no need to pay for service when you don’t need it. There are even seasonal shifts, so that you can access lower rates, for example, in the caribbean in winter and the mediterranean in summer, if that’s where your ship takes you. Fleet One has developed innovative ways to fit your needs, save you money and get all the communications connectivity you need, making satellite communications smart and affordable for small fishing vessels and recreational sailors everywhere.
